Is it still necessary to level floors if I use the LASH system?

  • Answer: Yes. The LASH system is not designed to eliminate major sub-floor irregularities. Tile Tool Shop recommends standard floor prep to ensure a quality installation.

How does using the LASH system increase productivity and profits?

  • Answer: Productivity will increase because less time will be spent leveling tiles. Time that is typically spent adjusting tiles to ensure a smooth transition from piece to piece will be eliminated by LASH. Therefore, you are able to move faster through the job, while having the confidence of a quality installation. Also, costly callbacks will decrease significantly.

What does LASH mean?

  • Answer: Level, Align, Space, and Hold. The acronym was created based on the benefits of the system. Ultimately, LASH ensures a quality installation by leveling the tiles with each other and holding them in place until the setting material dries. It also serves as a spacer.

When the LASH system adjusts the height of the tiles, will the bond between the tile and setting material be separated?

  • Answer: LASH is not designed to make a significant adjustment in the height of the tiles. Rather, it is intended to make the slight modification necessary to ensure a smooth, level joint, and hold it in place until the setting material dries.Typically a 3/8" to 1/2" notch trowel is best suited when using the LASH system. Also, be sure to apply setting material to not only the floor, but also the bottom of the tile to help provide a good bond. As always, Tile Tool Shop recommends following the manufacturer's instructions.

Can the LASH system be used on walls?

  • Answer: Yes. The LASH system works just as well on walls as it does on floors.

Are there any special tools required to use the LASH system?

  • Answer: No. Unlike other tile leveling systems on the market, the LASH system does not require any special tools. The only two components of the system are the clip and the wedge. Once the installation is complete, simply kick the clip in the direction of the grout joint and it will break loose.

How long does it take to learn and feel comfortable using the LASH system?

  • Answer: The LASH system is simple to learn for the novice installer to the professional craftsman. Veteran setters that typically do not like using any other methods than what is considered traditional will admit after their first day using the LASH system that it is simple and extremely effective.

Do I need to buy the same number of wedges and clips?

  • Answer: No. Only purchase the number of wedges that you or your crew can utilize in a day. They are reusable and can be picked up each morning when cleaning up the area of tile set the day before.
